What Is Follow-Through in Pistol Shooting?
Follow-through means continuing the shooting process through and immediately after the shot instead of mentally or physically stopping at the trigger break. Maintain your intended grip, visual attention and shooting position long enough to observe what happened. Good follow-through also supports shot calling because it keeps you engaged with the sights through the shot.
What it looks like in practice
- Grip pressure unchanged for a moment after the break.
- Eyes still with the sights, not jumping to the target.
- Position held until you have formed a shot call.
Why it is diagnostic, not just cosmetic
Without follow-through you have no observation of the shot, so every conclusion afterwards is guesswork from the hole in the paper.
