La Postura Stabile nel Tiro con la Carabina: Fondamentali e Tecnica

A stable rifle position is one your skeleton holds, not one your muscles fight for. The rifle should rest on bone support — support hand under the fore-end, elbow supported against the hip or torso, butt seated in the shoulder pocket, head resting on the cheekpiece without pressing. Balance should sit over the middle of the feet, and the position should feel repeatable rather than merely still. Some movement is normal in every standing position. The aim is a position you can rebuild identically shot after shot, not a position without movement.

What a position actually has to do

A position has two jobs: carry the rifle with as little muscular effort as possible, and point it at the target without steering. If muscles are doing the carrying, they fatigue, and fatigue shows up on the target as a group that grows during the session.

This is why coaches talk about bone support. Bone carries load without tiring. Muscle does not.

What to build, from the ground up

  • Feet: roughly shoulder width, weight even, balance over the middle of the foot rather than the toes.
  • Hips: a controlled lean that lets the skeleton carry the rifle, without collapsing the lower back.
  • Support arm: elbow resting on the hip or against the torso, forearm as vertical as your build allows.
  • Support hand: relaxed, the fore-end resting on it rather than being gripped by it.
  • Butt plate: seated in the shoulder pocket in the same place every time.
  • Head: upright and level, cheek resting on the cheekpiece, eye finding the sights without searching.
  • Trigger hand: light and relaxed, its only job is the trigger.

Body proportions differ. Two shooters with correct positions can look different. Copying a photograph of an elite shooter rarely transfers directly.

How to tell whether your position is working

Settle into position, aim at the target, then close your eyes for a few seconds, breathe normally and relax. Open your eyes without adjusting. If the sights have drifted, the position is being steered by muscle rather than pointed by the skeleton. Move your feet, not your arms, and repeat.

What the target can tell you

A position problem often shows as a group that drifts in one direction as the session goes on, or as vertical dispersion that increases with fatigue. A single wide shot says much less. Compare several series before concluding that position is the cause.

Cosa non cambiare ancora

  • Do not rebuild your whole position in one session. Change one element and shoot enough shots to see whether it helped.
  • Do not chase a position that looks good in photographs if it does not settle for your body.

Principio ShootMind

A position is judged by how repeatable it is, not by how still it looks.

Come lo vede ShootMind

ShootMind compares group size and shape across a session, so drifting point of impact and fatigue-related growth become visible instead of being guessed at.

Domande frequenti
