Tempo di Tenuta del Fucile: Quanto a Lungo Mantenere la Mira?
Most rifle shooters have a window of a few seconds after settling where the hold is at its steadiest, then stability decays as oxygen drops and the position sinks. The shot should be released inside that window. If it is not, put the rifle down, breathe and start again — a shot forced after the window has closed is usually worse than the score you were afraid of. Find your own window by timing shots in training and comparing the results, rather than adopting someone else's number.
Find your window
Shoot a series where a partner or a timer records the seconds from the rifle settling to the shot breaking, and note the result of each shot. After thirty or forty shots the pattern is usually obvious: results hold up inside a certain range and fall away outside it.
Why late shots go wrong
- Hold movement increases as the pause lengthens.
- Vision degrades before you feel short of breath.
- The position sinks, sending late shots low.
- The trigger becomes a grab rather than a press.
Learning to abort
Aborting is a trained skill, not an admission of failure. Practise it deliberately: set a rule for a training session that any shot not released within your window is put down, and count how often it happens. Most shooters discover the number is higher than they thought and drops quickly once it is measured.
In a match, the shot you put down costs seconds. The shot you force costs points.
Cosa non cambiare ancora
- Do not copy an elite shooter's hold time; body, equipment and training age all differ.
- Do not shorten hold time by rushing the settle. The window starts when the position is set.

A shot put down is a decision. A shot forced is a guess.
Domande frequenti
