First separate two things. Group position tells you where the average shots landed. Group size tells you how consistently the shots landed together.

A tight group low left is a different problem from shots scattered predominantly across the lower-left area. A tight displaced group can suggest that the shooting process is relatively repeatable but the point of impact is displaced. A large irregular group indicates that consistency should probably be investigated before moving the sights.

Trigger interaction: if movement of the trigger finger changes pressure through the hand or pistol as the shot breaks, the sights can move. Look for movement visible during dry fire, a change in sight alignment as pressure increases, and shots you call left or low-left.

Anticipation: a shooter can unconsciously react to the expected shot before it actually occurs. The important point is timing. Movement after the projectile has left does not move that shot. Movement immediately before or during the shot can.

Changing grip pressure: the exact amount of grip pressure is less important than reproducing it. If fingers tighten during the trigger press, the pistol can move.

Sight alignment or visual focus: small alignment errors can produce significant displacement at the target. For iron sights, maintaining useful visual attention on the sights is generally more important than trying to make the target perfectly sharp.

Sight adjustment: if repeated well-executed groups are consistently in the same location, the sights may genuinely require adjustment. But sight adjustment should correct a consistent point of impact, not compensate for inconsistent technique.

Hur du skiljer dem åt

Do not change five things. Shoot several controlled groups while concentrating on execution, then ask yourself a short list of questions.

• Is the group consistently low left?
• Is it tight or dispersed?
• Can I call the low-left shots?
• Do the sights move during dry fire?
• Does the pattern become worse as the session progresses?
• Does it appear across multiple sessions?

At your next training session, establish your normal grip. Perform several safe dry-fire repetitions according to your normal safety procedures and the manufacturer's guidance. Watch the sight alignment through the trigger action. Do not attempt to hold the pistol perfectly still — look for movement specifically associated with increasing trigger pressure.

Then shoot a small controlled group using the same trigger action, and record what you observed. The purpose is not to shoot a high score. The purpose is to discover whether trigger action and sight movement are connected.
